If u havent been paying attention....Atlas just released their winter 2021-2022 O gauge catalog, and theres a lot of 2 rail.

Getting all this stuff up for pre-order is just long and tedious, but i did manage to get these engines up for pre-order on the website tonight.   Here are the links and pix..

Apologies if this is a stupid question....the catalog entry for F7s makes no mention of DCC decoders, saying only that the 2-rail versions are "sound equipped." And it looks to me like the area where the decoder type would be mentioned is grayed out (not in the overall catalog, but in the individual model links). So, will they have DCC, and, if so, what type of decoder?

Thought about posting this in the earlier thread on the 3-rail board, since Atlas has already posted there...but this is really a 2-rail question.

David

Im certainly expecting that all 2 rail engines will have DCC decoders. I believe the last F's that they made had ESU LokSound decoders.   The "sound equipped" is old verbiage from when Atlas was changing from QSI to Loksound,,,and they werent sure what sound system they were going to use when the catalog was being put together.

I put in an order for 2 C&O F7's (A&B) with Caboose Stop Hobbies under the assumption these will be ESU LokSound equipped. I'm sure we'll know for sure by January 19 when preorders are due.

I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by these announcements. I'll be even more surprised if they're actually delivered by the 2nd quarter of next year. 🤞🏼

Though Proto-3 is mentioned in the Atlas catalog, seeing as the former MTH locomotives are equipped with Proto-3, it means that the boards are DCC-capable. I'm presuming the DCC/DCS switch will still be there. Several years ago, I ran my GE ES44AC Hybrid on a 2-rail DCC layout at a train show and it ran just as nicely as it does under DCS.

I thought I was done buying engines, but that's up in the air now.
