Just checked the Atlas O site and it looks like I'm out of luck this time for a late 40s Wagontop.  They are releasing 4 schemes, the PRR fantasy, Early Kuhler (too early), the Billboard 13 Great States (too late), and a REA in blue which I assume was not until at least mid-50s (can't find anything on it).  While there are those who would like the PRR scheme, I hope Atlas changes that one to the post war scheme.

The REA versions of the M-53 (known as C-16 cars)  were originally dark (Pullman) green with gold lettering. In the late 1940's they began to be repainted blue with gold (yellow) lettering.

Thanks for the feedback.  Looks like the REA car would fit in although I'm not sure how REA cars assigned to a specific road worked. I assume they were interchanged just like other cars as needed to get to their destination.

The only similarity is...they are both boxcars.

I need to respectfully disagree here.  For those who know and care about the differences, I'm sure that they would take a pass on a "fantasy" scheme for a Seaboard box car.  However, most do not.  While I definitely know the difference, and specifically purchase resin kits (in HO now, as I've left 3RS in the rear view mirror) for models that I really want (like Santa Fe Bx-13 box cars, and specific GN and NP cars), I have never been that hung up on freight car differences as long as the car could be a "believable representation" of the real thing.  Especially when I was in 3RS, as long as I could weather the beast, and assemble a train of credible looking equipment for a 1953 train, I wasn't going to pick nits.

This train was what I considered "good enough", especially when the car rode too darn high to accommodate the pizza cutter flanges.

Jerry, I can't think of a thing to say without offending your opinion, sorry.

All I can say is read the last sentence in that post, then look at the B&O cars roof, the ends, and the ribs on the sides and roof.  It would be like me calling an F3 a GG1.

Atlas can (and will) put any RR name on it they choose, but I and most likely a few others, will not buy it.

Actually, I may get a couple and repainted them into correct B&O cars IF I can find more decals.  If not, I'll paint the RailKing car I have and be done with it.

  • I have a basement sized HO railroad that grew by70% when my wife and I did an addition / renovation on our home in 2009.  I'm having my first formal operating session on my layout in seven years this coming Friday with a round robin operating group that I participate with.     
  • There are only so many hours in a day, and so much disposable income to model with.  I get far more model value for the time / effort that I put in on my basement railroad as compared to what I got in 3RS.  90% of my operating was on a modular three rail railroad, and the time, money, and effort required to play in 3RS was not economically justified given the satisfaction that I was getting out of it.
