No photos yet, however, I am just finishing up the molds for a new facade that will either go on an Ameri-Towne facade or complete structure or it can be used in conduction with a scratch-built structure. You just cut the lower shop facade off of an Ameri-Town building and glue this on in its place! It is completely finished, painted - everything. All you need do is glue it on. It is based on The Dark Room facade on Wilshire Blvd. It is still there today (built in the late 30's) in Art Deco. I will have photos soon. This is a real eye-catching facade representing a Vitrolite glass facade in shiny black with chrome trim. The price is expected to be $50pp in the US. Remember, it is completely assembled and finished!

It's a great Art Deco look. I am most attracted to Art Deco buildings. The Hilton's lobby in the Carew Tower complex in Cincinnati is one of the most beautiful Art Deco rooms in the country. The building was originally constructed by John Emory (a producer of animal fats and fatty acids for the soap industry that Henkel bought and ran until 2000). He was trying to get backers for a complex that would have offices, hotels and shopping, but no bankers would bite. He sold his stock in his own company and self-financed the building. It put hundreds of men to work just when the market crashed. He wasn't hurt since he had already cashed in. The complex went on to be a great success into the 50s, when center-city hotels started to decline and Art Deco was passé. They put wall board over all the murals and drop ceilings and in general made the place look awful. In the 90s it was bought by a group who invested millions into a complete restoration and now it's a masterpiece. The Palm Court dining room is the center piece and the food is great.

Yes indeed - nothing better than Deco!.  I had to travel on business for years and years and I made it a point to stay at grand old hotels like the Brown Palace in Denver and Hilton in Cincinnati.  It was one of my favorites, at least after it was restored to some semblance of its former glory.  And the Palm Court is good - I've had many a great meal there.

In spite of my love of it, I have only one Art Deco building on my layout, the movie theater, which I had to scratch build.  It taught me one thing: Art Deco looks easy to do, but it is subtle and required a lot of study and care in proiportion.  They people that did it well had a real eye for detail.

I would like to do a nice Art Deco hotel and office building, but I don't have a good hotel type place left on the layout.  Frankly, someday Lionel's Legacy Hotel may suffer re-development in the name of improved esthetics.
