Well, its a good start to organizing my train room. I can't say enough good things about the craftsmanship that my friend Tom put into making and designing these cabinets for me and my postwar collection. He's starting to looking into making these for people so if anyone is interested please feel free to shoot me an email. I think my son loves them the most and frequently tells me the colors and types of trains, I think we have a good future ahead.

Have a great day everyone.

One suggestion I would make is to have an option to make them deeper and layered. You can fiddle with the dimensions, but I use inexpensive 2x4s on 10" or 12" shelves. Here is what the cross section would look like:

This lets you fit more rolling stock in a set amount of wall space. Yes, portions of the back rows are partially obfuscated, but I find I need the space more than 1000% visibility...

I built wall shelving units of 1 x 4 " X 7 or 8 foot sections and used 1 x 3 " behind those vertically attached by screws. Stained them and put about 10 shelves together in 1 unit and put another 9 shelf unit above that one and attached them to the studs. Have 9 foot ceilings in my house. Have 19 shelves which are spaced 5 1/2" apart and 7 feet in length in a room in the house and the entire rear wall in the garage to house my trains.

And still not enough shelving to properly display the trains. And you wonder why some of us are very, very selective these days in purchasing.
