Okay....

What's the newest Lionel, MTH, Atlas O, WBB, etc... freight car that is in your collection?

What has sneaked its way into the house, past the wife or girlfriend, and the kid who screams, "Mom...Dad got another train!!"

For me its a Lionel 6-27345 Milwaukee Road Steel Reefer... Yourself?

Looks like we are not the only ones who are buying new rolling stock, hopefully these won't be built in China

MONTREAL, Sept. 4, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - CN (TSX:CNR.TO - News) (NYSE:CNI - News) announced today that it is acquiring more than 2,200 new freight cars in 2012, as well as 1,300 new containers, to support traffic growth and improve customer service.

Jean-Jacques Ruest, executive vice-president and chief marketing officer, said: "CN is acquiring new freight cars and containers for a range of markets, including forest products, metals, minerals, coal, iron ore, steel, consumer goods, finished vehicles, and grain. These fleet additions will help us grow in line with our customers' demands and ensure CN has the right mix of modern, productive assets."

CN's largest rolling stock addition in 2012 is the acquisition of 600 premium 60-foot, double-door box cars for forest products, and metals traffic. These higher payload cars help improve customer loading efficiency.

CN's other main 2012 fleet additions are:

  • 1,300 containers for grocery and consumer goods.
  • 558 high-capacity modern covered hoppers for grain exports.
  • 317 multi-level cars for finished vehicles deliveries to major cities.
  • 300 gondolas for coal exports.
  • 232 new ore cars for pelletized iron ore produced in Minnesota to supply steel mills in the United States.
  • 200 multi-purpose box cars for the North American freight car pool.

Ruest said: "CN's rolling stock acquisition strategy is responding to evolving market conditions and is intended to ensure reliable, predictable supply chains for our customers."

Got four of Weaver's new woodside gondolas on the line.  Really a very nice car at a nice price, and made in the USA.  Mine are, of course, four Milwaukee Road cars and I'm working on the loads for them  Don Kane had been doing somre really nice loads for hopper cars, Weaver and other manufacturers, but I think that he's going to do some specific loads for those Weaver Gons.

Then, the next major purchase will be Weaver's new Milwaukee Road, rib-side boxcars.  Saw the early shot of them and, Man, are they nice!  I'm gonna have a string of them on the layout.  These cars are the first series of MR rib boxcars and have the ribs the full length of the car.  After WWII, they started building cars with a flat, 18" panel on each end of the car.  So Weaver's cars will be distinctively different than other versions of these cars and will date back to the MR's first use of these cars.

It's the new stuff that keeps this hobby exciting!

2 50' boxcars from Atlas arrived this afternoon. One is  a Texas South Eastern and the other is a Milwaukee Road.     Originally Posted by MUEagle:

Good Day,

I'm curious, who is the builder for the 600 premium 60-ft double-door box cars?

My recent freight car is actually four...they arrived together.  They are four of the recently offered Lionel PS-1 Boxcars.

C&O has black roof and ends...

...it also has interior load.  I have several PS-1s, but certainly not all...this is the first time I have seen a load like this in a Lionel PS-1.  Normally it is a large box load or no load at all...

This L&N has normal box load.  Roof and ends are body color...
