On page 59, I think it is, of the new Lionel catalog there's new bathtub gondolas. I particularly like the CSX versions. In looking at them more closely, the bottoms to me look very similar to the MTH coal porter gondolas. Does anyone know how these two types match up? Would running them together be okay from an aesthetic standpoint, if not prototypical? (Forget the rotary coupler bit, for a minute.)

Mike, the cars are very similar in body details and dimensions- the only issue I have is the truck choice Lionel insists on using with these cars, which should be roller-bearing....
Bringing these out again, does that mean that we may see a new version of the coal tipple in the next catalaog, expecially since it has been a long time since it was made
They use roller bearing type trucks on the Lionel bathtub gondolas, just not the normal side-frame compared to their other roller bearing trucks.

The tubs on the MTH cars are noticeably smaller than the Lionel and the wheelbase between the trucks is short.
Contrarily, I have seen a pic of the MTH with add on hand holds which would be a great improvement to me.
