I noticed the new pilot steam locomotive offerings in the newest Lionel catalog. These are very unusual offerings and are attractive as well. I was wondering how many find this offering appealing. i know that I do.

Love them . Wish I had them all.
would make very good display pieces
"Love them. Wish I had them all." To quote yamaha226.
These things tickle my Collector-bone, which is normally not very active in me.
I have the GS-6 and PRR S-2 Turbine (and MTH Chapelon Pacific "Engineering"). Not just for display, BTW.
But especially, I would buy (as many as I could manage):
Centipede (how about a re-do in single-A-unit?)
NYC Niagara (not done)
NYC Hudson(s) (not done)
NYC Mohawk
PRR T-1 4-4-4-4 (not done)
PRR S-1 6-4-4-6 (not done)
So, Lionel, there you have it.
I like them also. Though, I don't own any.
Really like the new pilot H-7. I have the UP version and it's stunning, one of Lionel's best in my opinion. Gets a 'sleeper' award. Really like the pilot version but decided not to collect these models as they could become very addictive!
I made one once. Took a Lionel 0-8-0 and immersed it Methylene Chloride. In 5 minutes I had a "pilot" version. Then I repainted it. Given the price of the Legacy engines I would just get an earlier version and strip it.

I love the pilot version look. I look to future offerings for an opportunity to order one.
I have 3 now and hoping to add more to my stable.
Have the GS-6, the Y3 and the EM-1. They are head turners and huge crowd pleasers.
I do run them but I also enjoy staring at them in my display cabinet.
Not sure that I've enjoyed gluing my own coal on the tender or the builders plates. Takes a steady hand and good tweezers to get those plates on straight.
