I hope so but stay away from the 2000 loco, very nice but the wheels were too wide causing shorts on most switches.
David gave good information. I have the MTH with skirted drivers. The Lionel is a better looking locomotive. I purchased one new (Lionel) back in the day and got rid of it as it was not a great runner. Today with the ERR board it should be able to be a good runner. I am holding off for one in Legacy.
Are you guys familiar with the effort to resurrect a 1:1 scale, operating T1 from the dustbins of history? Very exciting - hope this effort succeeds! They are now casting the Boxpox drivers.
One of the model train manufacturers should come out with a new T1 numbered 5550 and contribute a portion of the proceeds to the T1 trust. Check out the latest on the T1 resurrection efforts here: https://prrt1steamlocomotivetrust.org/

This subject comes up often. Unfortunately the Lionel scale T1, based on one of PRR's production models, was one of the engines involved in the MTH lawsuit several years ago and apparently Lionel can not make it again without a redesign. The best I can get out of Lionel's reps at York about a reissue is "maybe someday".
The MTH's engine is based on the prototype engine, of which there were two built. These engines lost their aerodynamic fairings during WW2, and as produced by MTH they do not represent my layout's time frame (late 40s).
I do not expect Lionel to make their scale T1 again any time some, based on Lionel's responses. I hope I'm wrong. I have the 2000 model. I have added cruise, 4 chuffs (actually 8)/rev, and had the center four drivers machined down to eliminate the shorting issue. It runs great and I love it.
I have the 2000 model, but I got it only some months ago. Had no trouble with running it on my GG layout, but it was only a brief test. Wasn't aware of the driver shorting issue. It runs well enough, but needs breaking in and certainly ERR Cruise. It doesn't even really "enjoy" 072.
I would be all over a Pilot model, but unless that appears, I'll not bother with another.
Too bad about the legal issues, if true - and I guess that they are. Even NYC fans like me are taken with the PRR T1.

Now, that S1 6-4-4-6 - in a Pilot model - I'll take it, Lionel. That is post-lawsuit, is it not?

CAPPilot - who machined your drivers?
Ours also ran and smoked well on our ScaleTrax layout some years ago and on the club's Gargraves layout without any shorting issues. Had we kept it I would have added the ERR cruise unit. Great looking and sounding locomotive - one of my personal avorite prototype steamers.

Looks great Sam, thanks for letting us see the images. The Lionel T1 does have some fat drivers, could see it hanging in on tight switches. Have an MTH GS-4 which shorts on a Ross 096/072 switch, hangs too far in going around the 096 and driver hits 072 center rail.
