I have the new MTH CP 6644 (20-21499-1) and am having some issues. First off, the smoke control 'knob' doesn't do anything. I generally run without smoke so I just turn it all the way off, but the smoke unit does not go off. Wasn't really something I was worried about as I could just open it up and disconnect the smoke unit and be done. But now sometimes while running the sound gets all garbled or cuts out. I don't know a lot about these, so I don't know if they are related or not (Like a board is going out or not.), or if there is a simple fix I can do or do I have to send it back to MTH for repair. Can I even send it back to MTH at this point to get fixed? My LHS that did MTH repairs is long gone sadly.

Running conventional or command? If you're running DCS, the smoke control knob doesn't do anything.
Sound being garbled might be an old battery? Not for sure on that but do you know how old the battery is? If it is the original it would be a good idea to replace it.
No battery in an MTH number that high. It's PS3.
Ah gotcha ya, thank you
Are you running in DCS or conventional? Like John said, if running DCS the smoke volume control does nothing, use the smoke button on the remote and follow the responses the remote gives you. Sounds operate similar, use the sound button.

There will be a delay with MTH handling warranty, but where you bought it may be able too. You could try reloading flash code and sound file. G
I'm running DCC, but I set the volume and smoke knobs while in conventional mode first before I run it in DCC. On the other four PS-3 locomotives I have it worked just as expected. Even in conventional the smoke knob does nothing on this locomotive. And I don't have DCS so no ability to reload anything. And the sound cutting out seems to only be the bell and horn. I believe the prime mover does keep playing. But I need to try with it being the only locomotive on the layout to be sure.
