TrainWorld is proud to announce the premier release of a brand new scent of smoke fluid by Jeb Kriigel At Mega Steam Smoke Fluid commemorating the arrival of the exciting new Vision Line Big Boy.
Called " Big Boy-Premium Blend," the unique scent was specifically designed to pay tribute to those grand Union Pacific locomotives. These giants of steam were originally coal burners and eventually converted to burn oil. Mega-Steam's unique blend replicates the scents of coal, hot oil, with hints of smoke, cinders, and steam for a prototypical scent that is sure to please.

After talking to him about the Big Boy Smoke Fluid I mentioned he is like a mad scientist creating all these secret formulas!

Jeb Kriigel's passion for model trains comes through loud and clear with his chemical creations in his company called Mega-Steam, LLC. He might be considered a mad scientist type in his search and pursuit of the perfect scent for model train smoke. Jeb is a self-taught chemical engineer who takes a creative approach to mixing and matching unique concoctions. That all started with a small chemistry set that he received when he was in grade school several years ago. Today his goal is to make the "world's finest smoke fluid on the market." Suggestions from customers are considered carefully. Through a very controlled trial and error process some of them  fail to pass the strict testing. Others will make it through and eventually be added to the exciting line to bring fun and enjoyment to the model train hobby. Jeb's wife and assistant, Nancy, provides lots of ideas, suggestions, and strict quality control. Together they work in R&D to develop, test, and re-test to make sure their products are ready to go to market. Having been in business for over 12 years, Mega-Steam started with just a few choices and now offers 50 different and unique scents for model train smoke fluid. Each scent is originally designed to please spouses and significant others in the model train environment which is usually in the home where many people live. Mega-Steam has operated under two basic rules: "If she's not happy, you're not happy!" and "Happy wife makes for happy life!" Everyone has their favorite scents as it is a very personal thing and many wives now encourage their husbands to actually run their trains instead of fearing the awful smells of traditional model train smoke. "That is the whole idea behind our products," says Kriigel.

Works great with most smoke units MTH, Lionel, Williams, K-Line, etc
Proudly Manufactured in the U.S.A.

No, they were not! Only the 4005 was temporally converted to burn oil, for less than one year, and was subsequently put back to coal burning. Except for that 4005 "test", all the UP 4000 class locomotives burned coal their entire working lives.

My mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for correcting my original information, I had known that almost all of the Big Boys were coal burners, but had thought (wrongly) that several had been converted. My apologies. Thanks guys for the correct information!

I agree 100%. I love original cedar and the woodsy scents. Coal, I'm not sure if my smoke unit is burning up or what!

I'll stick with some good known no burning scents. LOL!

I had a similar experience with the "coal burning steam loco." scent. I subsequently discovered that these products have a definite shelf life. Thus, a nice new bottle of the coal scent smelled very good. I no longer use smoke on our layout, as it messes up the weathering on steam models, plus falls down all over the track and scenery.
