My name is Chester Louis, I'm 65 and have been model railroading since 1959 when I got my HO train set as my 12 year Christmas present.

Today I model in Proto48. Back in the 70's I got into O scale when my ex-wife and I were first married. We lived in an apartment so there wasn't a layout, but I began meeting fellow O scalers and began learning all that I could. Fifteen years ago I bought my house and started an HO layout, but didn't get very far when I changed to On2. I finished off part of the basement to make it nice and started a layout.

Well I grew tired after about ten years and really needed something different again. I remembered the fun I had with O scale so decided to give it another try. After starting my Proto48 railroad, I started a blog to record the progress of my railroad. Here take a look at it to see what I've accomplish.  This blog is no longer accessible because google now requires you to have a mobile device and I don't own any. So I'm planning to start a new blog which will continue from where I left off with the old one.

Last year I completed a promise I made to myself when I was 12 yrs old. I was introduced to live steam that year and promised myself that I would someday own a live steamer. Last year I bought an Accucraft Fn3 4-4-0 live steamer. I'm slowly working on changing some of the details and will only be firing her up a few times a year to get my steam fix. But it's a ton of fun.

I'm looking forward to hearing and meeting some of you. I live in Western Massachusetts so if you're close by let me know.

Talk with ya all later.

Thank you for the welcomes. By reading the posts here I knew this would be a good place for me.

To answer some questions.

Andre, Glad you like the RS-2. When I first start the work I was going to use the Weaver side frames, but as I looked at them, they began to appeal less and less until I remembered that I had a pair of brass AAR truck frames. The truck bolster needed some work to hold the new wheel sets, but have worked out great. The motor is a high efficient Maxon that draws less than an amp so I can run it with an HO Tsunami.

Adriatic, I believe you're talking about the switch throw wire. The wire isn't music wire. It's steel wire by K & S that I bought at the hobby shop.

John, Yes I like her too. I had to send her back to Accucraft to get the valve timing straighten out. Runs in both directions now.

Be talking with ya.

That's how I discovered it, looking for cherry switch replacement trip wires on a weekend, while in the coin-op trade. Our old LHS referred to it a music wire, and it came from a producer of wire for musical instruments. It came in 4' or 5'(?) lengths only. It was a bit harder than what I got ordering switch wire by lengths.
