Here I go again.  AT the risk of incurring wrath, I will say that on my workbench test track and for doing upgrades at York & elsewhere, I use a 14-volt 400 mah with no problem.  F drawing poweror years Barry was recommending what I use on my layout, the Radio Shack 18-volt unit which has a 1 amp capacity.  No trouble working a TIU with 3 AIUs, but, I do not use any accessory relays that can stay on.

Since the MTH unit isn't shipping yet, go ahead and try what you have in the meantime.  If adequate, fine; if not, order the MTH power supply.

OK Guys, I appreciate your thoughts.  After reading this post, I am confused but then again I'm very easily confused.  I plan to run 1 TIU and 2 AIU's at this time.  For external power only, will the new MTH wallwart be OK, or should I look at a Z500 for power which I already have.  I do not have the RS unit. No plans now for a constant or heavy load on the AIU.  Still looking at space saving.

Tks

I realize this thread is super old but relevant!  I was using a separate 1033 lionel transformer to power my tiu originally.  When i upgraded to a zw i figured i would set throttle b at 16v for lights and the tiu aux power.  Well the zw also powered fixed 1 and 2 on the tiu.  Some smoke and a burned trace on the tiu board i learned a hatd lesson.  My mth repair man, jim, replaced the trace with a wire and it was fixed.  Swapping polarity on the aux port solved the issue.  Can anyone explain the right way to do this so on one else makes the same mistake?  I think transformer common had to go to the center pin and hot to the barrel but might be wrong.
