So I ordered a few switches from a forum sponsor (not mentioning any names) but this is how it looks out of the box. The rails were badly oxidized and the underside has a few spots of VERY bad rust.

I emailed them to see what can be done but I'm just wanting to make sure this isn't normal haha. Needless to say I am very disappointed with how the products arrived.

The cross over from the same place has arrived in rough shape as well. Not sure if the splintering of the wood is common but overall for the price I am not impressed with it either.

Lance last year I ordered some switches and the same 90 degree cross over you showed in your picture. Mine was quite (fuzzy) just like yours looks in the picture. I just took some sand paper and sanded off all the burs and I do woodworking as another hobby so I have different shades of stain. I found one that was close in color and restained the areas that I sanded. As for the (rust) I don't know what to tell you to do other than return them for some new ones that are not rusted. Call Steve at Ross switches he will make it right.
I can assure you customer service is  priority # 1!

Case in point the slip switch I purchased and never used until 2 years later the throw bar on one section broke.

Steve said please send it back so I can fix it. And he did just that all for free.

he is a man of men in my book and whenever I need more track or a switch Ross Switches is my choice because he believes in a real Customer Service bar none.

I have quite a few Ross Switches and every one was purchased new in bright shiny condition, looked excellent, was made perfectly and operated flawlessly. Now if a vendor had the unit in storage in inventory for a long time (in a high humidity location), then rust can develop. Was the unit purchased as brand  new?  If so then it is the responsibility of the seller to honor a return and/or replacement. The vendor that you purchased from is probably a reputable one so give them the opportunity to make things right.

Yes these were purchased brand new but no I didn't purchase them from Ross directly. Different forum sponsor.

The first picture of the underside... The metal brackets in the middle of the picture. The darkness to them is solid rust.

Lance, I'm not sure of what the purpose is of your post.  Is it to do a survey of forumites who purchased Ross switches?  Are you looking for advice on how to deal with the vendor who sold the items to you?  As I said, I'm not clear on the purpose of your thread.

If I bought "brand new," current items and they arrived with visible rust, they'd be going back to the vendor for replacement or refund.  If you want to keep what the vendor sent you, but with a refund of a portion of your purchase price, that's a matter to be negotiated, obviously.

Good luck

Yes, just looking for advice. Not trying to stir anything up, was just wanting to be clear that the rust was not normal on a brand new switch. And to make sure it won't affect its functionality.

The metal brackets are the electrical connections. They are soldered to the rails. The discoloration is just evidence of the soldering flux used. Just about all of my Ross switches have it - nothing to be concerned about.
