Wow those colors vary more than I realized! The SD50 looks like the more correct Conrail paint to me.
I have two Chessie engines on Layaway. From what I see here, none of the “flaws” are a deal breaker. And from what I have seen in photsos and video elsewhere, these are great looking locomotives. Are the Lionel SD50s better than previous models of that design, yes. Are they 100%, no. Are they going to provide a very nice representation of the locomotive that the vast majority of modelers will enjoy running, I believe so.
If someone won’t buy this model because of the truck placement, that is their choice. But my life is too short to nit pick about some minor flaws that will likely never be corrected during my time on this earth.
Enjoy the trains while you can.
I think Grzboskis trains has a custom run caboose to match the red head produced by METCA.
