When first run, the smoke was very weak, especially by MTH standards. After a few hours of running, it has stopped completely. The smoke control on the bottom is all the way up as well as the setting in the remote. Anything else I need to check. Yes, it has fluid.

I've finally had time to take a look at this guy. The fan motor is working, just no smoke. Here's where I need help. How do I get the smoke unit out. Dropped the motor, speaker, slid out the electronics assembly, but the smoke assembly does not come out. Looks like I really should be taking it out the front, so................. How do I get the boiler front off. The lower part starts to pull out, but not the top. It looks like there may be a retaining screw under the headlight assembly. If that's the case, how do I get the headlight assembly off. This guy is completely different than any of my other steamers. The folks I bought it from will send me a new unit, but we want to make sure it's the correct one. Prefer not to have to pack it up and send it back. FYI, the engine number is 11-1040-1 and I see no parts breakdown for it.

thanks

Steve~

I had he same problem with my 4-4-0.

Difficult to remember exactly how I did it but I think remove bulb and slide headlight socket back  or forward to acces the screw. You may have to loosen or remove the pilot to get to a screw (on boiler bottom) that fastens  a bracket that holds smoke unit. Once inside the boiler you can slightly unscrew the smokestack just enough to pull out the smoke unit.

The person that installed the batting did a terrible job, it was all pushed to one side. Once I repositioned it and reassembled, it worked better than new.

Not an easy job but not impossible.

Ok, got the smoke unit out. The headlight assembly just slides off. Boy was I over thinking that one. With the light off, just the single screw held the boiler front on. Getting the retaining nut on the smoke stack loose enough was a bit of a pain, but once done the smoke unit slid right out. These the fan, works great. Tested the heater.....nothing. Hopefully Pat has a smoke unit in stock to send me.
