I just recived my mth ps3 R.I. rs3 from trainz.com I purchased. it was almost new in the box with no major flaws whatsoever.  It is gorgeous and runs flawlessly. My question is as follows. Was this one of the models that had the overheating smoke units? Before I use it I would like to know as to not damage the shell. Also if it was what is the fix? Thanks guys.

UPDATE: tried the smoke unit first before panicking about the update to the files. turns out its not overheating.

while running the engine I notice it stalling through my switches. check with my meter and found one set of pickup rollers not getting power from the ac hot.

took the shell off traced the red wire that comes off  the pickup roller and wala. seem it was not in the wire nut it was supposed to be in. it was just floating around in the wire tie mess of wires. good thing I realized it before a short to the chassis or a  damaged board.

put it back in the wire nut and serviced the smoke unit before putting the shell back on and now it is all fine.

plus I saw no overheated smoke unit. shell was not even melted above it. it works as it should. I avoided the file download thank god.

this engine was a good deal and almost brand new. the loose wire was probably a factory error.

with used engines of all types it best to go over them thoroughly before putting them into permanent service.

thanks for the links and all the likes though they helped a lot.
