I have the original release Lionel black 844. Tough model to beat. But seeing the new one I do like the 8444...

But looking at the wide paint stripe on the smoke deflectors, steam cylinder polished stainless missing, and the off colored smoke box silver... something looked amiss. I would be pressed to repaint it a bit... Here are some reference pictures I found:

Peter I didn't touch the rods. That's how they came out of the box. I only painted the 4 ends of the axles for the drivers and the center hubs on the engine truck wheels.

J Daddy I agree. The pin stripes are a bit exaggerated on the front and top of the smoke deflectors. They should be more on the edge and not so much on the face. It's just one of those things that gets exaggerated for effect and much easier for the factory to do. I thought about re-painting them to be a little more accurate, but since it has all the other bling on it, I'm just gonna leave it.
