Has anyone had a sparking/shorting problem with the newer thinner bolster atlas o 2 rail trucks?
I have, they spark like crazy even when not mounted on a car!

Spark where?
Between rail and wheels
O boy! I mounted my first pair to a Lionel autocarrier. I have not run it yet as I was sick. I'd better go try it and see. It sounds like you have some kind of short occuring with a wheel set. Do both trucks spark??

Unfortunately, yes. Both trucks sparked. I even sat the un-mounted trucks on the rail, pushed it around just to make sure it wasn't the car causing it (see my other thread about husky stack cars).
the old style atlas, no probs what so ever.
Nope, I just rolled it around and don't see anything? The transformer was fine too.
That's good to hear. Maybe I got a bad pair. For now, I'll stick with the older thicker ones.
Make sure one of the insulated axles isn't in opposite of the other. That would make a short. If it is just turn in around.

Got it all figured out now. For some reason on the 100t trucks I received, the wheels were rubbing against the side of the truck. 1st solution-put nylon washers, very thin, between the wheel and the side of truck. 2nd solution-remove the insulating sleeve and put it on reversed so that if it rubbed, the washer end would rub against the side And not be metal on metal.
So I did solution 2. It seems that the trucks(at least my batch) are just a tad too narrow.
