Now that we are into 2019, if you could have any engine, cataloged or not, what would it be? And who would be the manufacturer?

For me, it would be an NYC F3 or F7 cigar stripe locomotives from MTH premier line.

Second would be a Santa Fe F3 or F7 silver and yellow stripe locomotive consist from MTH premier line.

How about you?

John

N&W S1a. N&W didn't roster USRA 0-8-0s. Up to this point, that's all that have been offered. At this point I don't care who makes it. Lionel, MTH, or 3rd Rail would be fine. These could also be offered in Virginian, and C&O.

The N&W Cab #244 was the last  US steam engine built for a Class I railroad. IMHO it is deserving of recognition with a good scale model.

Scott, if you're reading this I'm retired now. I'll get a part time job bagging groceries if I have to, to pay for this!

( Sorry, you knew I would post this...again.)

There are rumors but....until..... it actually gets made.....someday....hopefully.

Lionels highly detailed most accurate hudson ( for Lionel)  The unstreamlined J3a from the 50th anniversary set.

Swinging bell, whistle steam, optional PT tender, but please.... for the love of God..... no silver smokebox!

What the Vision Line hudson SHOULD have been:

Well if I can find the $$$$ this year I'd like to buy the last locomotive for my layout. Either a MTH Premier Santa Fe Blue Goose 3460 Hudson (PS2 or PS3) or a Lionel Santa Fe 3751 class Northern (TMCC or Legacy). It's either one or the other, as it legitimately will be my last locomotive purchase (I'll run out of room on my layout). At this point though mulling it over and searching for either one is more fun then actually forking over the money to buy one. So for now I'll enjoy what I have and continue dreaming.

I ran out of room a long time ago, but that hasn't stopped me

I don't have shelves and I refuse to leave locomotives in boxes. Anything I buy must fit on my layout. Keeps my collection small but also manageable. Plus I really have to like something to buy it. My own personal rules, but to each his own 😀.

Agreed on the #244.......well deserved recognition is way overdue.

My pie-in-the-sky wish is for a 1500-class Frisco Mountain; either the 1522 or one of the slightly earlier ones, like 1501.

SLSF 1522 - 19891501

I would prefer K-Line to make it   Failing that, I guess 3rd Rail (up until recently, I would have said Lionel, but I am scared of them right now).  And I do NOT want Legacy, DCS, or even TMCC.

For a more down-to-earth, possible acquisition, I want to pick up a good Marx 333, preferably in a boxed set.  Unlike my pipe dreams above, I can be sure this one will be a good runner, and I won't have to mortgage the house for it.

Lionel's probably as close as your going to get with their latest 4-8-2 offering:

And yes, the air horns are prototypical as built:

4--8-2 SLSF 1505

Rusty

Same old wish list, built with original Williams reliability.. can keep the fix-it-again Yugo electronics.  GW/Strasburg #90, Little River 2-4-4-2, several different tonnage small Heislers. McKeen car, Baldwin steam coach, Edwards, GE, and other gas electrics, Mack and other railbuses, rerun of Weaver Baldwin 2-8-0, and the list goes on.   Cash waiting...(no substitutes)

Nick,

Lionel had NS SD70Ace #1030 & 1111 (also know as the barcode unit) in their

2018 Signature catalog. I think Charles Roe had them on sale a few weeks ago.

Air horn fit was dependent upon assignment: some territories required them; others did not.

Anyway, the 1500s were not USRA, and they differed quite a bit.  They were better engines all around.

The Lionel catalog pic suggests the red will be too bright, the black will be too dull (the Frisco kept their engines Williams shiny), and the white walls are an offense to the soul.

You may be right in that this would be as close as I'll ever get, but, if I am going to lay down more for a toy than I paid for most of the cars I have owned, I want it to be RIGHT.  I am not worried about every last detail, but I want the shape and the paint to be right.

Still, I had not seen this offering, and I appreciate very much you pointing it out to me.  Would that it were correct!

This concern, of course, is not one I have to worry about with the #333 ;-)

Pretty much in agreement, at least partially. The J1e Vision Hudson was just fine, and I wish that I had bought one, but the J3a should indeed come back - but as the later version with FWH, power reverse, running board changes. "Selkirk" face on some. Mixed drivers here and there. PT tender as appropriate.

AND - how about some later L2 Mohawks - Coffin and/or sunken Elesco FWH (as in the one actually preserved in St Louis).

BUT - I'd definitely pony up for a K-3 Pacific (the NYC's workhorse 4-6-2 east of Buffalo):

NYC_Psgr4-6-2DoubleK3Pacific1940

AND - also would definitely buy: the K-5 Pacific (workhorse 4-6-2 west of Buffalo and sort of the Hudson's daddy):

nyc4928[1)

Given a choice - if only... - I'd prefer one or both(!) of the Pacifics to another Hudson. Never thought I'd say that.

THANKS John. Hennings has one, I would rather order from him. I appreciate your response! Nick

A Reading I-10 class 2-8-0.

RDG I-10-consol

I don't care about the maker, but please: no swinging bells, steaming whistles, dumping ash pans or flushing toilets.  Keep the electronics to a minimum, as I only run Conventional.  Make the price less than the average automobile, please.  Oh, yes, and a bit of quality control would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I know -- I must be smoking opium.

I'm cool with that!

Also, a K-1sa, 2-10-2.
