I was running my Legacy PM1225 around the layout without the sound and noticed she has developed an odd sound with every wheel revolution. It's not a squeak, more of a rubbing sound. Like a spring cam binding or something. I'm going to oil her up tonight, but was wondering if there is anything I should be on the lookout for. ?
I'll probably throw on some new traction tires too while I'm at it.
Any thoughts from the brain trust?

First check to see if the rubbing noise is coming from the following:
1)Trailing truck or pilot truck
2) Drive train of the flywheel, motor or gear box... hitting a wire maybe?
3) Check the draw bars are not binding or hitting anything, sometime the driver screws will back out a bit causing the rods to hit each other. Sometimes finger pressure will move one rod into another.
I would only hit the oil if things are squeaking...
Could be a cable bundle rubbing on a moving/rotating part. I wouldn't arbitrarily change tires without knowing if that's the problem, unless they need to be change due to wear.
Your not going to find out where the sound is coming from while its going away from you on the track.Place it upside down on your lap,connect some power to it (clip leads) run it very slow.Just my 2 cts.Nick
Well I wasn't sure how to run her without the tender attached (Legacy IR), so I just gave her a good oiling. Sounds better now. Still need to do the tires. They look a little dry rotted. This engine is my prime mover and gets LOTS of run time.
You only need the tender attached for the sounds. The locomotive will run fine by itself for testing
