We recently received an MTH 20-2207-1 KC Southern set. Though boxed, it seems to have some minor damage, perhaps dropped. The problem: though it enters "reset" mode (with a double bell ring) when powered (by a vintage ZW transformer), a second power up results in a second double clang, followed by additional sounds, but NO movement. I found a generic operating instructions on-line for "MTH E-8 Diesel Engine" and follow instructions to reset the unit to factory setting. No help. So, two questions: (1) any ideas on how to proceed to get this unit moving? and (2) where might I find the Operating Instructions for this particular set. The generic instructions don't identify the specific features installed or even what the switches on the chassis are for.
I probably should note here that my experience is almost entirely in Lionel post war equipment - this is my first foray in to "newer" sets. Who knows - if this works out I might dip my toe in to DCC.
