I was watching the Storming Normandy show again today and they talked about stopping the German re-enforcements from arriving at the beaches. I have seen this show at least three times or shows showing the same footage. Today, they showed the French Resistance blowing up RR tracks and what happened to the military train when they blew the rails. The train looked like it was really moving, and the carnage almost looked toy like. I imagine it's a combination of things. The older black and white film and cameras used back then, the massive weight propelling the train as it left the embankment, etc.
The thing that really hit home today, was that they showed more of that footage to show the tanks and other heavy equipment leaving the rails and piling up on each other. At that speed (looked like maybe 60 - 70MPH+?), with that much mass flying threw the air, those tanks must have been destroyed? They didn't show the aftermath. I can only imagine what it looked like afterwards. WOW!
Good thing I'm older now and my one brother is in Arizona. Because if we saw that when we were kids, we'd try and stage that ourselves with my trains!
