But,,,,,,,,,back then a Hudson only had to supply train lined steam for the train, and NOT 480 volt three phase AC HEP.

engine failure of some kind , NS unit was closest to where the loco failed en route. Amtrak does not have many facilities outside there terminals.

That is a true rare sight/event
