So I'll start by saying I'm very new and inexperienced with all this, but last year, thought, why not!?!

Anyhow, working on the track layout...using Fastrack...plugged in the track, on both sides of a road crossing and couldn't get enough power on the far end of the track so the train would stop moving the further away it got. Just installed more wiring to the far end of the track. Now when I turn everything on the light flashes on my Lionel CW80. Manual says too much for the transformer.

Does this sound accurate? If so, any ideas on a fix?  Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Have a code code for all your wiring and stick to it, it will save you a lot of headaches down the road. Sounds like you got a hot center rail and outside common rail track connectors crossed or something is laying across your track rails causing a short. First try removing all train cars and locomotives from the tracks, if that doesn't help, vacuum all the track, you could have 1 strand of wire, a nail, brad, or screw shorting your rails together, and next, lift up the Track to make sure nothing is stuck across the track connectors and check all your wiring for crossed connections. For a sample color code for track wiring, this is what I use: (Note: I don't use Track Power for Track Accessories, I use Accessory Power for them like (18VAC) Switches and (14 VAC) Uncoupling Track so that's why color codes for them is listed). Hope this helps you out. Transformers are in phase and Common Wires connections are separate for ease of doing any troubleshooting until they all get back to barrier strip then all connected together there and both transformers. I run Conventional with 2 MTH Z-1000 Transformers for the 2 separate tracks and 14 Volt Accessory power, and 2 Lionel CW-80 for 18 Volt Accessory Power and DC Voltages for Accessories after going through AC-DC Adjustable Buck Converters set for whatever voltage needed for lighting/accessories

Thanks everyone. You guys are awesome! Yes, turned out the new wiring I just put in was on the wrong rails, so now it is all a continuous circuit. Still can't get a complete run of the track, but its more so uneven tracks and grades: frustrating but hopefully fixable.

Answering some comments: its a 2-8-4 Berkshire (seen better days cause keeps falling off the track). Track set up is based on a posting from years ago for the spiral mountain PE layout (Moonman) but I lengthened the straight sections to take up a whole spare bedroom.
