Man, they had spectacular 2-8-4s, 2-6-6-6s, and 2-10-10-2s until the end of steam, plus a bunch of FM train masters, in really nice paint schemes.

not to mention several of these contraptions...

That's a very scenic railroad west of Roanoke up into the mountains also that's been ignored by most railfans.  Heck, it was even mostly ignored by the steam program.  High bridges, tunnels, deep cuts--hard to beat the Virginian.

I see NS put another picture out from this afternoon on Railpictures.net this evening here http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=399861&nseq=0  I also see one of the comments here about the Virginian SD70ACe at this site here http://www.trainorders.com/dis...n/read.php?2,2784177  makes a comment saying he thought the black around the front of the engine was going to be blue because of Lionel. I will say one thing, I bet blue would look cool to. Maybe Lionel or MTH will make this engine in Blue and Yellow as well. Also, maybe Lionel or MTH will have the Tuscan Red PRR ES44AC in a Brunswick Green as well.

This is one nice looking unit.  The VGN - N&W merger was the start of what was to become the NS.  I only wish that the road number had been left off the cab or at least  been in  small type as is the NS.  No VGN diesel had a number on the body, only in the number boards.

However, as the NS doesn't have to do these units I suppose I shouldn't gripe at all.

Thanks to Norfolk Southern.

People should learn not to use a 1950's era Lionel catalog as a reference for prototype painting practices.
