As a S.P.F. I would prefer if they did the PRR unit in brunswick, even the spartan decor of the last SD-45s, or the large-keystone post 1959 GG1.

Whatever, the PRR is actually, probably the least interesting of the roads they'll be doing (that Southern green/white is spectacular!) . I just thrilled they're doing this, great for NS's P.R. and just good ol' clean fun.

This, if decently produced in O by anyone, will finacially dent many. I'm a steam/electric

guy, but the Central (NYC, not CofG), Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia and Penn Central

will make me go: hmmm...

Has anyone heard anything at anytime about BNSF and/or CSX ever considering this?

And then there's CN, which could bring back the GM&O/Alton scheme, eh?

CSX got most of the NYC trackage, not NS, so that would be more appropriate; how

about one doing lightning stripes and the other doing the cigar band? In "jade" green!

Or...could we get a nice, black diesel with "New York Central" spelled out on the

hood in elegant, Railroad Roman steam-era lettering? Nah; too tasteful for the

21st century (good train name, BTW).

Swafford,

if you're going to "do" an EL unit, here's a better font for you to use.

Blue Highway is VERY close to EL's lettering and it's free.

This is tough...I really like the passenger livery idea, but it just seems more fitting to go with the freight livery.

Good Day,

With regards to CSX heritage engines, check out CSX on facebook. You never know what may develop!

CSX has a rich railroad history. How about presenting some Heritage color schemes on your engines?

From the CSX facebook

CSX Hi Everyone – thanks for the great ideas. It’s great to see so many people with the same love and passion for the railroad as we have. We’ll definitely take this into consideration. In the meantime, keep the ideas coming!

I just hope the schemes are done tastefully, i.e. as if the original railroad had rostered the unit, NOT a butcher job like UPs.

My thoughts on this (and not sure it's worth 2 cents) can be put into "great" and "longing for" categories. That NS is doing this heritage program is certainly great.

In the "longing for" category, I wish NS would include in their heritage program bringing back some steam, and in particular the 611. Now THAT would be splendid.

As has been discussed on the Forum many times before, particularly given the grand history of N&W steam, having at least one steam engine operational would be, to say the least, appropriate.

My other thought, in the "longing" category, is that these heritage schemes are a reminder of all the great "fallen flag" rail lines that have been swallowed up by conglomerates over the years. That diversity, and all the interest those many now-vanished roads generated, are sorely missed.

Still, given the realities of the day, these things should not diminish the value of the interest and memories that these heritage schemes will generate.

As for "each fan community" helping in the design process, I don't think so.  We need to remember that this is an NS program built around that company's 30th birthday.  I do not believe the r.r. ever meant this to become a "railfan participation" program. So, don't nit-pick it to death.  NS will conduct this whole thing the way it wants to.  All we fans need to do is relax and and ENJOY it and be supportive of it.  And don't bring up 611.  Be grateful for what the company is doing, a gesture that a mere week ago would have been deemed impossible.

Good Day,

I personally know that Norfolk Southern Corp has been interested in heritage color schemes for several years. At this point, I would guess the color schemes have already been selected and approved. I’m anxious to see the Norfolk Southern Heritage line-up! It will be interesting to see which model train company offers these in O Scale.

The 21st Century is a great time for model railroaders!

Good Day,

Just curious, is this an official Norfolk Southern Corp line-up of the color schemes on specific types of engines? I’m wondering where or who is the source of this information?

Well now the speculation and hyperbole can be over.

I wonder if they will let us all in on how the paint schemes were made up and determined.  Maybe we will see if the employees were involved as Mr. M talked about locally.

ONE thing I see from the two post above is that the rendering of the Pennsy is shown two different ways!  One is in Green the other in Red?????.
