numbered turnouts do not have a curve on the diverging route. they are straight, just like the prototype. the numbers relate to how fast the rails diverge-- eg: a #8 turnout will diverge 1 unit of length for 8 units of length (1 foot for 8 feet along the non diverging route). As a consequence, numbered turnouts are very long--- Hope this helps.
