Does anyone have experience or direct knowledge of the operation characteristics of the O-Line Reproduction GG-1's? Do they run smooth? Are they quiet? I currently have a Lionel GG-1 (6-38520) that has dual Pulmor motors and Magnetraction, but it's kind of loud and shakes a bit when running. I have an RMT GG-1 that is both quiet and a very smooth runner on the same track that I run the shakey Lionel on.

Unless I'm mistaken O line reproductions are the same as RMT. I think it's the overflow stock from RMT when Walter retired. .The OLR GG-1 would run way better than the old Lionel with coffee grinder AC motors!
I have the RMT - same train, different box - and it isn't really a big fan of going slow. It just seems like it is dying to take off and run. I still like it, but it is fast.
LOL! Since when did Walter "retire"? I still getting emails from him well over two year since his "announcements"
I have an OLR GG1 as well--great runner, and I agree, it likes to go fast.

You could wire the motors in series which would slow it down or install an ERR Cruise control board.
Jack rabbits they are--and durable! My daughter literally flew one off the layout onto a bare concrete floor and it only suffered a (very) minor scratch and detached pantographs. The 'pants just snapped right back on. I guess that was mostly luck, but still...these things are brutes and good runners.
Thanks to all who took the time to respond. I just purchased two of these from Mario's Trains and very good prices, lower than any others I have seen for sale anywhere. The one I originally purchased from Walter runs great, and it can be run at slow speeds on either my MTH Z4000 or Lionel ZW-L. I've been shutting off my chuff sounds and other noises produced by many of my trains. I like to run from three to seven trains at once, and the noise has been tending to get me jittery lately. So, for me, locos without sound are just the ticket.
The K-Line/RMT/O-Line GG1s are all the same, and they run great. I have a K-Line one and bought one from RMT that came in an O-Line box.
The first one I bought was an RMT (Spirit of 76, red, white and blue) and it came in an Aristo box. It is one of the absolute best running locos I own. And, it plays god bless America instead of a horn sound.
