Hello there! I am in the process of finding details for my layout and I want to have some specific cars and just 50s cars in general. I am trying to find a 1957 Plymouth Fury, a 1953 Chevy Bel Air, a 57 Ford Thunderbird, and a few more 50s cars. I also would like to know where I could find some more new york style scenery, I am trying to model 40s-50s new york. Thanks!

I have found cars on eBay by searching "1/43 1957 Plymouth" (for instance). No real need to search in anything but "all categories" ...the "1/43" is key (most model car buyers are not into trains).
Franklin Mint made a nice '57 Fury, but none are currently up for sale. No '53 chevy has been made (except for Corvette and trucks) as far as I know. There are plenty '57 T-Birds.
Ive even found some at Krogers!! And as Joe said 1:43 is the answer.

Ebay is a great way to find diecast.
I've gotten some great deals on nice pieces. Here you go, starting lowest price first: 40's and 50's vehicles on ebay
While there may not be any '53s out there, there are Bel Airs from other years in the 50s available so if it doesn't have to be '53 for a specific reason you should be able to find a 55 or 57.
As for scenery, find some pictures of what you want to replicate, Manhattan would be very different than the outer boroughs, and look through the Scenery Source List on the Scenery and Structures forum. You'll be able to kitbash structure representative of the outer boroughs. Most of the landmark structures in Manhattan would have to scratch built or kit bashed. A few are commercially available, Grand Central terminal comes to mind immediately, and there are several advertisers that can build what you want but that could get expensive.
I just saw some new 1/43 cars at WalMart on Yale near Washington Ave here in Houston under the EXP label. On the aisle between housewares and toys right before the bicycles.
