Does any one know if there is a dealer list of attendees for the (use to be 2-rail show) Indy show in September?

I was just curious of how many manufactures will show now that it has been renamed the "O Scale National Convention" for the same 1 and 1/2 day show.

Any information would be helpful. I was planning to attend, but wanted to know what who will be representing 2-rail. Would be great to hear who is coming!

Sometimes the dates for some vendors conflict with other shows that they go to.

Norm's O Scale is usually there along with Bill Davis American Scale Models.   Bill ofter has a nice selection of older stuff.   P&D Hobbies and Ted Schneff Rails Unlimited are usually there also.

There are many tables of individuals selling of extra stuff and of course many vendors that I don't know the names of.

Doubt Atlas will be there, know Kohs won't be there (and so do you, see below...) would expect Sunset to have a rep there... MMW is close enough by to attend.

I'll be there knowing well it isn't a March Meet but is worth a day drive for the fellowship and fun.

OH, and You weren't a happy camper last year:

Rule292: I wish you would stop instigating.

I found things, but did not buy them as I said, yet I later purchased an item from a dealer that I took a business card from. I love it! If I were not happy I would not go again.

This show will be different in that 3-rail will be part of the show.

If there main players for a convention are not there, then this is certainly not a "National Convention" Just some HAPPY THOUGHTS< Stephen

Still no additions to the gang of 3, but I did notice something unusual on the schedule. For Saturday, dealer set up starts at 8:30 as usual. Show opens at 9:00 as usual. If you follow the listing order the next line down shows 11:00 as closing followed by layout tours at 3:00.

I am certain the show doesn't close until 3:00 but the schedule doesn't really indicate that.  The reality is that the show is, for all practicle purposes, over by noon on Saturday.

Talked to Jim Canter last year after the show and asked why the second day of the show couldn't be held on Sunday.  Jim said he had no problem moving the show over to Sunday. All the vendors said they were in favor, apparently hotel not available - too bad.  Not a good idea to close the show so early on Saturday, a lot of people left out.  Isn't it the idea to have as many people attend the show as possible?  It only comes once a year.

That's just flat out goofy, too.

E-mail that I received on that detail:

I am planning on getting a table also for a little horse trading.

At the Chicago march meet I sold two Lionel scale 27xxx cars and I think I have one or two more to sell.   The Lionel 60' reefer and ACF stock car sold before any of my "2 rail" items did.

I am hoping someone has some of the new Lionel PRR GLa cars there to examine and/or purchase since they appear to be state of the art renditions of the most popular 2 pocket hoppers from the steam era.

That is unless someone knows where the same quality and price cars are in "2 rail"

I would not consider doing so, except that the organizers are marketing this show to include Hi Rail and Scale 3R (cf. Registration form).

Furthermore, many find that a substantive portion of 3RS items are fungible with 2R - loosen a few screws, swap wheelsets/trucks and couplers and the item is equivalent.  To wit, 2R and 3R Atlas CZ psgr cars are identical except for a few minor details such as wheels and couplers.  In fact, some of the 3R CZ cars I plan to offer were purchased as 2R.  Life is too short to get hung up on simple reconfiguration.

It sure hasn't worked that way at the Chicago March Meet. Granted, not much 3-Rail, but many 3-Rail modelers have been coming to the March Meet, and nobody seems to have been harmed.

Roger.

The header says "O" Scale P:48 On30 On3 Scale 3 Rail Hi Rail Books.

All are suitable for 2 railing.

And in some instances (the Lionel H43 scale hopper for example) the 3 rail items are even better than much of the non-brass 2 rail... even approaching brass in quality.

If the show becomes filled with toy train items I would suspect the promoters might ut the brakes on the "diversity" of the show.

I can go to 1/2 dozen shows within an hour's drive that are predominently 3-rail.   I got Indy, Cleveland and Chicago because they are 2-rail.

I know there is stuff to convert, but there are so many 3-rail dealers and buyers, that they sort of overwhelm the 2 rail and take over the show.

If it goes that route, I will stop going.   No need to drive that far for the samo-samo.

I just mailed in my reservation for a table today.

EVERY O scale meet deserves our support...

I no longer have a dog in this race, as I now exclusively model in two rail in HO (which I never left).  However, IMHO, if you want this show to grow and survive, I'd suggest that achieving critical mass needs to include the scale three rail crowd too.  When I was active in scale hi-rail with the IHMD, I attended every March Meet, and drove down on three occasions for the Indy show.

During two March Meets, Hot Water had his three rail railroad on the layout tour, and I don't recall any two railers turning into frogs from viewing it.    But then again, maybe I was too distracted from having too much fun and missed such an event.

Regards,

Jerry

I have the same concern regarding the Strasburg Show.

Ed

I'm not worried about the prevalence of 3 rail stuff at a 2 rail meet.

One of the better concerns was mentioned at a March Meet a few years ago.  The fellow said that European O scale meets are filled with modelers and manufacturers and sellers showing their state of the art models whilst American O scale shows are filled with boxes of "junk" (their word not mine) of antique O scale parts from the 30's/40's/50's and overpriced brass and plastic.

Tables filled with overpriced things that end up going back with the seller is more of my concern.

Maybe the dwindling attendence is the way the show is run. Not all 2-railers are retired and can afford to go on Friday in what is normally a work day for some. Then it is not worth while to go on Saturday when most of the dealers are gone by NOON. Saturday at Indy sucks for those that travel a long distance on their only day off. Just some thoughts to think about.

And, being a vendor there, I can tell you that after noon that there's next to no one other than vendors in the hall.  We stand around until 3 pm and it's a ghost town.  It's no wonder that some pack up and leave early if they can make it home in a reasonable amount of time.

Moving it all to the weekend makes no difference to me - still costs me 2 days off from work - yup, not retired.
