O Scale Layout Videos

And we have to give equal time to steam motive power, so here is one.

I visited Bob and Elizabeth Jakl's magnificent O scale layout last week and took these photos.  Their layout was featured in OGR several years ago.  NH Joe

Stunning paint on that All Nation!  I will watch them all tomorrow.

Bob and Elizabeth made a video of quite good quality - available on DVD, I think.  Incredible amount of work.

My 'under costruction' layout is going to look rather underwhelming after those videos; for one thing it's very small (by US standards) and very simple (by anyone's standards!!), depicting the Interchange between a Class 1 & Shortline on one side, and Industrial Park spurs on the other. There is no hidden staging, & train lengths are restricted by the sharp curves.

I am in England, UK, where our houses are very much smaller than many American homes, & generally lack basements. This layout is built in my loft. It is 17ft x 8ft. Lack of space is merely a challenge to the imagination.

But here's a tour anyway, which was filmed before I laid the last siding, and then a couple of videos of trains on that siding, where I tried to capture that really rough look of badly maintained Short Line track....

Those videos were only done on my phone. Probably why the focusing went funny at times!!

You had posted some pics on the E6 thread of trains sitting on large curves.  One of them included a pic of a B&O Cincinnatian train.  Any chance of getting a video of that one uploaded with that sweet P7d on the point?

As requested, here is a video of the Baltimore & Ohio “Cincinnatian” Train by Sunset 3rd Rail.  They really did a great job on this set.

The GM&Os are beautiful - Atlas models?  I have a pair of Atlas 3 rail very similar.

Do you have some video of the PRR T1 Duplex in operation?  Have never seen a 2 rail O scale model of it before...

Hi Sam,

Yes, the GM&O F-3s are by Atlas and the cars are old Walthers but well painted.  We think it’s a good looking train.

Regarding your PRR T-1 question, we do have one each of the three versions that Sunset 3rd did and can post a video, so stay tuned!

I was hoping we had a T-1 video in our library but apparently not, so we will shoot a new one in the next few days.

 In the meantime here are some photos of the latest version (no portholes) riding the turntable.  What a bizarre locomotive!

Hi Ron,

The turntable is 28” in length and is made by Millhouse River Studio.  The largest one they make is 34” and although that would have been very cool, we didn’t have the room!

The videos you have posted are great.  Any possibility that there is a video recorded from in front of an engine traveling around the layout?  Would love to see the layout from the engineer's view point.

I really like your layout. What a great use of space and visual barriers ! You make the layout seem much larger than 12X18.  Would you be so kind as to share your track diagram with us?  There are features that I would like to include in my next venture into layout building.  Thanks for sharing your videos.

A number of years ago we tried putting a Go Pro camera on a flat car and pushed it around the layout with a locomotive.  The results weren’t too bad, as I recall, so I will have to talk to the other members of the Rockford O Scalers and see if we might be able to do that again.  Thanks for inquiring.

Frank, IIRC Millhouse makes a 34" diameter one too. 

Has anyone here modeled a turn table with raised rails on one end so as to accommodate larger engines in a smaller space?

As previously requested, here are a couple videos of the Rockford O Scalers Pennsylvania Railroad T-1 4-4-4-4 running on the layout.  The model is by Sunset 3rd Rail and is the “middle version”, i.e. it has some skirting removed but retains the pilot “portholes”.  The PRR built two prototype T-1s and fifty production locomotives.  The prototypes had a more pointed nose than the production models along with pilot portholes and lots of skirting.  As the production models aged, they lost the pilot portholes and more skirting and gained a small second headlight in the front radiator.  Sunset 3rd Rail did all three versions and our club is lucky to have one of each version.  We will post videos of the other two (prototype and late version) in the near future.

Here is a video of an Atlas Minneapolis & St. Louis Alco RS-1 with the factory installed decoder.  The Rockford O Scalers think this Alco sound is excellent!

It is a great unit! I have the same locomotive with the PRR livery.

I just love this site. Giving everyone a chance to show off their work !   Here's a few views of my Pacific & Great Western O Scale Division layout.    Their short views, but hopefully you'll get an idea of what's going on and lots of enjoyment .    First a few run by's of the Eastbound Canadian exiting the east portal of the Connaught Tunnel.
