O scale model of the Southern Railway heavy duty 12-axle flatcar.
An O scale model based on the prototype Southern railway #50099 flatcar has been built for operation on three rail track using Hi-Rail flanges. The model has an overall length of 15-1/8 inches or 60-1/2 scale feet. The truck bolsters are articulated to allow for operation on O-54 curves. The 3 axle trucks are from Lionel.
The scale model is shown in as new and repainted condition. Very often old railroad cars are restored and rebuilt and then renumbered and sold to shortlines or private industrial companies needing a railcar.
The Southern prototype was built in 1964 by Thrall. The original Southern flatcar had a rated capacity of 600,000 pounds. Prototype photo shown. The prototype is shown with Buckeye style trucks.
