Its a good question on how much I want prototype scale. My objective will be to stay as close as I can to 1/48. I'm sure there will be deviations on my layout but another hope of mine is that when it gets all blended together the final look is pleasing.  I have never been to an O Scale meet and I look forward to saving my coin and heading to York. I'll bet I can find what I'm looking for. Thanks Again.

If you move to 2 rail  you can actually do 1/48th

The only thing truly 1:48 is Proto48.

This is not really an accurate statement.  1:48 is a proportion while Proto48 represents a track gauge at its most basic level.  On3 is 1:48 on 3/4" track so it's still truly 1:48. 1:48 proportion models running on 1-1/4" track whether two or three rail are still 1:48 proportion.

Perhaps the answer to the OPs question is it would be helpful to list proportion and track gauge on the box.  Some of us have been in this hobby long enough just to know it, but that isn't very friendly to those who come from outside the hobby or migrate from the other model railroad gauges.

I guess maybe we should be glad we aren't discussing G gauge?
