Hi folks,

I was talking recently with Ed Boyle and a number of other forum members, about Lionels Congressional set with TMCC.

They ALL LOVE IT! But, I do not....

Now I know the performance of the combo of Pullmor motors with TMCC is no where close to a can motor with TMCC, and I own several Post War Celebration series F3, with this same Pullmor/TMCC combo.

However, this engine runs very strange.

Unlike my F3's which require about 75% power on the Legacy Handheld to get moving, this engine requires 100% power on the TMCC handheld.

Also, it stops in 3 places on my layout where my F3's just slow down...and to get it going, all i have to do is turn the Legacy controller wheel clockwise, even though its already at 100%.

It hauls like a brute big time, but the abrupt stop in 3 places concerns me.

Even more..if I keep turning the Legacy controller wheel constantly clockwise, even though it is already at 100%, then the engine does not stop at all and might just slow up.

Is that not strange, that the engine reacts to the clockwise movement of the Legacy Controller wheel, even though its at 100%?

In addition, what does the switch labeled "FULL and SIG" do and what does "SIG" and "FULL" mean?

In FULL I get engine sounds but in SIG I do not.

There is no manual, and I greased and oiled it.

it does seem to run better somewhat the more I run it, bit it makes sparks on all the curves and the trucks seem kind of loose and springy...is that normal?

Is the 6-21782 engine the correct one for the 6-21782 set?

I was told the following when I inquired about purchasing it:

ME:

How does it run?
Are all the boxed included if used?

SELLER:

Yes, all boxes are included and it runs great.
It is from an estate sale and looks to never had been played with. We tested the engine.

Here was the ad for the one I bought, and a picture of the main box and the engine's box:

1. Do a TMCC code reset (I don't have the correct code/procedures at work with me)

2. reset the stall point (I have a TMC GG1 and that brought the start speed much lower and gave me a lot of "room" on the throttle)

3. make sure the pantographs are installed and seated firmly...the antenna goes through the pantographs

Gunrunner....do these suggestions make sense?

Ok, OK - I'll do my penance.

Anyway, it does sound like a signal problem. When I do TMCC upgrades and am involved

in installing the antenna in a brass loco, say - just slowing down to nothing (or responding

to no command at all) indicates that I have, not a SIGNAL problem (other TMCC locos continue to run fine) but rather an ANTENNA problem in that loco.

Not familiar with the loco, but if the pantographs are the antenna, that's the place to start.

It's all about insulation.

Well, now that I have installed the Pantographs it is running fine now.

Thanks for all your help, I still am shocked that the pantographs contain the antenna.

I just need someone to explain to me how to set the stall speed, as I do not have the manual for this engine, but I do have the Legacy manual, but the way they explain it makes no sense to me at my old age.

Thats not surprising chipset, seeing as most, if not all TMCC/Legacy steamers use the handrails as antennas.

This is why diesels are usually the "biggest offenders" when it comes to  potential signal issues as they use a small antenna under the shell.

Glad you got it going!
