I was unpacking an American Flyer set from 1959 to remove whatever was causing the tray to not sit level and found a few sheets of this odd roadbed designed to fit under American Flyer Tubular Track. Its made of a molded paper like older egg cartons. I have seen nothing like this nor can I find anything about it. Clearly its professionally designed. Any information would be appreciated.

The straight sections are #26601 and the curves are #26602. It is Gilbert fiber roadbed introduced in 1959 as a replacement for the Gilbert rubber roadbed.

Thank you! I guess I have never paid attention to the fiber roadbed. Perhaps it was included in the set or added by the dealer as it doesn't fit well in the box.
The roadbed was not part of any sets. It would have been purchased separately. Your roadbed is new and unused. The three separate pieces have never been removed from the mold, however the complete mold included six pieces. It was sold in 1959, 1961 and 1962.
