Ok, So I'm a Radio Shack Vulture

This store will be missed more then some think, IMHO.

The local Radio Shacks went down hill in my area(southwest Pa.) Quite some time ago, haven't been in one in years, Perhaps it might pay to stop by and see whats left...

I bought a brick of AA batteries a long time ago. They went no good before I had used half of them.

In the bankruptcy court documents the list of 1784 stores to close is split into 3 sets- 600+ will close by Feb 17th, about 800 more by Feb 28, and the rest by march 31. So get to your local store ASAP--- personally I won't be going--- I haven't been in a store in 6 months. I'll just keep using Ebay or the other online electronics retailers for my needs/wants.

A Vulture would have bought $400 worth of items for only $100.

Yeah, I stopped by our local Radio Shack today as well. Grabbed the last of their screw in 14 volt bulbs, a roll of solder, contact cleaner and other goodies. Looked like business as usual though.

I stopped by ours today, no sales and they denied that they were closing - said it was just the mall stores closing.  I bought a bunch of light bulbs anyway.

I bought several things at the Radio Shack in our mall at 50% off at their going-out-of-business sell. It was the first time I had bought anything at Radio Shack in years.

Could have been a franchise store. We have one here, I've not been in recently.

Most of the items I ever needed from them had to be ordered online and are not kept in stock anyway where I live.  Our shacks had mostly become a mini-mart best buy/slash verizon store/brookstone...

The one near me is going out of business. Stopped by today and spent about 60 bucks. Killer deals on batteries and I picked up a wire stripper and some bridge rectifiers for future use. Also got a couple of R/C helicopters for the nieces and nephews. They had two helos left that started out at 50 bucks, were marked down to 30, and at half price were 15 apiece, so two of the kiddies get helicopters next Christmas. 

Not all the stores near me (SE PA just North of Philly) are on the closure list.

One in a mall that I stopped by on Friday was on the closure list, and the person there told me they got word on Friday that their fate had been reversed, so they will remain.  Since they had previously been one of the clearance stores (which I presume is the same thing as being on the closure list), they did not have much left.  Also, due to their new fate, the clearance discounts were no longer being applied.  I still bought about $50 worth of stuff. Solder, few packs of AA batts, and a transformer for the Auxiliary input for a TIU.

Another mall closer to me looked like business as usual.  I suspect they were never on the list of closure stores, as their shelves looked full.

The third I went to this evening, and they are apparently still closing.  Signs said 25%, but I got better than that on some desoldering braid and a few more packs of batteries.

The one close to me is a closeout store, and is going to be getting stock from the other stores when they close. I'm kinda excited about that.

The other one close to me is a franchise, which is not closing.

Stopped in to the store near me.  No sales...not closing.

Funny - have not seen an RS ad in the Sunday paper since Christmas.  Guess what

was in the paper today?

Thought I would check out the local Radio Shack as I was next door at the pet shop.

Had a nice chat with the manager about their closing and all the problems discussed at great length in another thread. Asked about a multimeter. Hey why not. She informed me that a manager from a store not closing came in and took all of them except one, the high priced fancy one.

Now there is a vulture.

Still curious how the whole "Not Closing" thing is gong to work when the company is in Chap 11 and sprint is supposedly taking over the remainder

so if you are a franchise you could use the name, but where is the product going to come from  weird

Last time I was in a RS store was to buy some floppy disc for my Tandy 1000 DOS computer so you know how long that's been.

    I just came back from the RS store here in Penn Hills, Pa.  In the words of the employees, they are going no where, business as usual at that location.

Priced and additional 18/24 RS power supply for my 2nd TIU, $24.99 at that store, and the adapter is now a pay for item.  So I ordered one off e-bay for $12.99, adapter included.  So depending on which RS store you visit the store may or may not be going out of business.

Funny, on Saturday, I felt more like this:

I bought one (TIU 18/24) a few days ago (at full price at a store now not closing) and did not have the problem with the adapter, but yesterday (different store - which is closing) when buying an adapter for a scanner, I was told the same thing.  I pointed out that it is printed  right on the adapter box that the adaptaplug comes with it and got my refund for the plug.

If they want to change the rules down the line (new stock can print whatever they want on the boxes), that might be fine, but for any existing stock, it's a hard argument.

I'd recommend (politely) pushing it if you find yourself at a store wanting to charge for the adaptaplug.
