I want to add a second headlight to an RK ps3 . Would it be a problem with the boards if i just splice into the exsisting wires ? Never did this before. Both lights would be LEDs.

not in parallel in series
"not in parallel in series"
Why?
Alan ,I have a headlight housing with 2 seperate clear lenses with one LED behind them mounted on a bracket. The light it gives off is poor.
I have removed a plastic lens and bracket on a single headlight and placed the LED ( OEM ) in place of the lens with great results on a different RK ps3.
Not sure what splicing would look like when you say it should be in series. ( limited knowledge on my part ). Sorry 😶
Thanks for the reply.

Arthur,,see my previous post.
I was just going to hook them up in what i think🤔 would be parallel, splicing red to red and black to black . I figured the brightness on each LED would be reduced but i didn't know if the boards or any thing else would be ill affected.
Thanks for your reply.
Just as a follow up guys..............I am guessing that if I hook these up wrong the resistance would be something to worry about !?! 🤔
Just try it and see. It won't hurt anything. You might lose some brightness on each LED, but if that does not bother you, it will be fine.
It will not create any problems whatsoever. The brightness will not be affected either. Wire exactly as you stated... Keep in mind, a 9 volt battery or equivalent power source will run 100 5mm LED bulbs...👍
Thank you gentelmen.........I fear no evil to the boards now. ( I can now leap tall buildings in a single bound ., I'm faster than a speeding bullet,.......but .......I'M MORE POWERFUL THAN A LOCOMOTIVE 🤣😄😆😉 )
Now we have light . thank you Alan, Arthur, Radio Roy and Ted

Along this same line, if I want to add an extra light or two (Evans ones) inside a Peter Witt Trolley would I have to hook it up to the feed wires from the track or can I splice it into one of the three existing LED lights on the overhead circuit board inside the trolley? Those three lights have a polarity printed on the PCB (DC I would assume).
Thanks,
John
Google "series" and "parallel" connections for a quick visual explanation. The electrical rules for incandescent lamps and LEDs are different.
if you hook up in series, won't you loose voltage at each one? Would it be enough to cause them not to light?
Yes, Maybe. G
I insalled the LEDs for marker lights that I had from scavenged headlights for my ps3 RKs and one Premier ps3 that didn't come with marker lights.. I used Tamiya red and green glaze to color them. I did them in parallel by splicing into existing number board lighting.
I had a different kind of LED lighting that I used track power for but since I didn't want to use power when the engines were not started up , I decided to use the parallel splicing to have the engine's marker lights come on just like the Premier engines do only when they are started up.🙂
