My name is Dino and I am working on what will be my last layout as I am pushing 80.
I was told to come to this forum as it is the closest to what I model.
Is there anyone here working with outside 3rd rail?

Well Dino, there's a few guys left that talk about outside third rail that I know of. The guys on the 3RS forum can be a little tough with their rules on who posts over there.
Being the two rail forum, most of us get our power from the two rails. Most of us, welcome discussion.
Dino, I'd suggest trying this link. A lot of old timers there and outside 3rd rail advice from guys who are familiar.

I would suggest you use the "Advanced Search" feature of this forum and put in the words "outside 3rd rail" in the "these exact words" box. That will pop up some past topics. Here is one of the links you will get:

You can also try the words "outside third rail" which will pick up some other posts.
There is a member by the name of Fred Swain that likes outside 3rd rail and stud rail. You might try contacting him. (His E-mail is in his profile) He is a nice fellow.

The Bay Ridge model Railroad club in Brooklyn NY, one of the oldest O Scale clubs in the USA still operates with outside 3rd Rail. If you contact them someone there will probably be able to answer your questions.

My Father was a member of one of the clubs that merged to become the bay ridge model RR club back in 1933. Thats how I became an outside 3rd railer. First with O scale later with high rail. Nothing I have ever tried adds as much realism to a high rail layout as putting the rail on the outside. You might want to check out (Frank Ellison, John Armstrong)
