I have an older set MTH F3 aba set can they be made to operate with the MTH DCS SYSTEM.

In order to work with DCS they either have to be labeled for PS2.0 or higher or if they are labeled as "Protosounds", the internal electronics need to be updated to PS2.0 or higher electronics and hardware. Depending on the road name, this may or may not be desirable for you. Sometimes just running them in conventional with sound may be more economical in the long run versus an upgrade, but it is worth pricing out with several sources available through this forum.
Good luck!
Thanks GG1 my exact sentaments there are 2.o protosounds.

Then like GG1 states run them and enjoy them. I just ran a set of ABA's from 2005 that I think have been run for the first time in almost 15 years, oiled them add so smoke fluid and enjoyed the ha=eck out of them for about 20 ,mutes. So much so that I filled up their space in the display cabinet and they are now staying on the layout permanently.

What's the MTH item number? Isn't 2.0 DCS?
Bobby o They did not come packed in there orignal box mine were PRR the box they came was marked for Santa Fe so I don't have the right stk. number.
Pop the shell on the lead A and post a pic.
Look on the bottom for a gold sticker. If it says QSI, then it is "PS-1", i.e. conventional. If the sticker says PS2 or PS3, then it is command control.

Much easier to count the number of pins/holes on the tether. 4 pins is proto 1.
Thanks for all the info guys I checked they are QSI so I''ll operate them conventional mode.
