Same problem early this morning.
Works fine for me now.
I just tried and still the same...

Interesting, now I can't get in the main site, but I can go to the Library and look up stuff.
OOPS, it just threw the error as I was working on that page. Five minutes ago I could get a PDF file of a Postwar Locomotive displayed.
I have often wondered how much longer we (I) can depend on Olsen's excellent library being online. They offer a valuable online resource totally free. Makes me think I should go ahead and order their CD now while the "getting is good." You never know when the free lunches can go away!
This seems to be a re-occurring problem as it seems like several times a year someone will post that they can't get access to their website.

I see Olsen's offers a few options on CD's.
Some of the material in the Olsen's library was created by them. I assume that you would receive that material on the CD. Other competing CD's shouldn't have that extra material.
Possibly has nothing to do with Olsen's website or even hosting server. Traffic to websites is routed through nodes shared by web traffic, somewhat like street travel to a destination with multiple route options, depending on point of origin. A "roadblock" somewhere along the way prevents access. It's possible to check using ping (tells if the trip can be completed) or tracert (displays the specific route) + Olsen's ip address from the command prompt. This screen capture shows the trip from my desktop to Olsen's website, but the route from your computer to the website will be different:
This works for any website.
I encountered no difficulty accessing the website yesterday or today.
For those unfamiliar, the ip address can be obtained by copying and pasting the website's url (olsentoy.com in this case) in a ip address lookup app.

The actual name of the site is http://olsenstoy.com/, note the s you missed.
If you're worried about a website disappearing, do what I do. Fire up a copy of HTTrack Website Copier and download the site contents. All you need is a couple of gigabytes of disk space, that shouldn't be an issue with current computers.
That website copier looks interesting. Have you used it much?
I used it recently to grab Dale's Train Facts website, seems to have worked just fine. I just used it to download the Olsen's Library, it looks like I got all the PDF files, that's what I was looking for. The only glitch is the Library Search Level 3 has screwed up headers with the disk copy, but all the PDF content is there.
Here's the real on-line site.
Here's what I got, but the PDF file links still work, so I'm happy. It just screwed up the headers for some reason.

Thanks for the correction (obviously did not copy and paste the url as suggested). tracert + url will work to avoid looking up the ip address, so I should have omitted that step anyway. Also should have mentioned to contact ISP technical support staff to refresh the node if a "roadblock" (actually shows as a repetitive timeout) persists. Some may deny responsibility until presented with the tracert results.
Interesting looking tool. I started loading photos of building our layout on the Yahoo HiRail Group site long before OGR and the rest created these forums. The group is mostly inactive these days, but I'd LOVE to find a way to copy my whole photofile from that site to my PC or some other now-active forum. Shame to lose those hundreds of photos of the building from empty room to the layout of today. I've not found a way to do it; would this tool do that function? Any ideas how to capture the entire file from that site?
Kerrigan, you just point it at the site and turn it loose. It captures everything, including photos.
Tried it on the Yahoo Group file and it lost its mind; produced a junk file on the PC .... oh well. Lost to history I guess when Yahoo dumps the group for inactivity.
What's the URL of the group?
gunrunnerjohn posted:What's the URL of the group?
What shows up as the address is ...
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/g...l/photos/photostream
When I'm signed on to Yahoo and go to the HiRail group and pull up my album.
That leaves me out. I don't have a Yahoo account, and since you can't get one without giving them a cell phone number, I won't have one either.

I don't give out my cell as calls cost me .25 a minute, coming and going, on top of the $11.95 a month service charge. Got a Yahoo account before there were cell phones I guess.

For anyone who has a Yahoo logon and is interest, there are hundreds of photos in the HiRail Group of us starting with the empty room, documenting everything involved in building the Cabin Lake & Western Railway, up to today.
I have a Yahoo! account, but access to the pics is restricted to group members.

A lot of us that own or moderate Yahoo groups are concerned that Verizon will dump everything as not cost effective to maintain. I hate the new Yahoo format, but losing everything will be worse. We are discussing migrating elsewhere.

I was just on the site, saw some interesting Dorfan parts and sent Sharon an e-mail. Got a response within an hour. Didn't like the answer, but got one quickly.

I have a Yahoo logon and an interest, but couldn't see any pics since access is restricted to members. I registered but haven't heard back. Then I looked at the "Message" dates and it looks like no activity since waaay last year. Is this group shut down, or just that inactive?

Lol - so, I can ping the IP address. Whoopie Doo! I reached a router on their server side...is the server is up and running - is the Application?
Sometimes a server that is not functioning will still respond to ping.

Just went on Olsen's site, no problems, everything works.

I would like to transfer the whole photo record of the construction to a site like this one, which will be around for a while longer than Yahoo. But have not been able to find a way to do it.

I keep posting adding photos to the album, trying to keep it somewhat alive.

Read the whole thread in context, Lollie. Some people could access the website, and some could not. Tells us the website is functioning, but connections from specific locations are impaired.
