today i had remembered some thing about that mth engine design contest and thought it was a contest to design a mass produced locomotive and got excited because i thought maybe it would feature a college / sports team logo and paint scheme
but i was wrong it was actually a blue comet award thing
what is the process mth or lionel would have to go though to feature a school or sports team on a locomotive ?
i'm just curious how this works

The manufacturers would have to seek licensing agreements for each and every university or professional team that they wanted to use. It's very cumbersome and costly as the schools and pro teams will collect anywhere from 10% to 30% in royalties.
I have a friend who imports/sells pro and college team themed linens. Every contract he enters into (which is each and every item he produces) has to be vetted by his attorney and the sports teams attorneys. It's a pricey and lengthy process.
