I just picked up a  lionel log dump car (6-37044).    when i a hit the unload button the plate lifts up to dump the logs but not far/high enough for the logs to roll out of the car.  is there any adjustments or anything i can do to get the logs to dump out of the car?

also does anyone else always have problems with stuff from lionel not working correctly right out of the box.  i bought a lionel saw mill last year and the band for the sawing action wasn't on the pulley and i had to fix it myself.  and the o gauge switch tracks i got one of them doesn't work right either so i got to dig into that problem too.

thanks in advance for the help

This car looks like it is a reissue of the older postwar 3461 lumber car. The service manual page for it is here

Make sure the operating voltage is high enough to operate the mechanism fully. Try it at maximum transformer voltage. If it still does not operate properly, check the plunger and pin assembly is not jamming, and is pushing up the platform assembly properly.

Unfortunately, many manufacturers have quality control issues with their products, some more than others, ie. painting issues, incorrectly packaged products that arrive broken, items that are Dead On Arrival, etc. All manufacturers work with their customers to resolve any warranty issues satisfactorily. Sometimes a design needs to be modified, and this takes time.

If you have any issues with certain products, post the  problem here. Many forum members may have had the same problem and may guide you in resolving your issue.

i did the dumping action manually on the log dumping car and it seemed to loosen things up and now it has been working like it should, things seemed to  have been a little tight and bound up but after doing it by hand a dozen or so times it has been working fine since.

also got the switch track working, took the cover off and used some canned air to blow out some of the dust  and it too has been working fine since.

thanks, larry for the help
