I'm working on a redo of my Christmas layout and decided to go with Fastrack. Gargraves & traditional "O" track did not work for my particular layout board (foam). What I want to do is operate a couple of passive (track activated) post-war accessories including the 45-N Gateman and Automatic Switch Tower. I have an insulated track section, but not sure if that is all that is required. Do I need to also remove an outside track pin? I did remove one, but upon mating the section to another both ends of the rail touch; thus, no insulation. How do I do this? I had no problem understanding this setup with Gargraves and "O" track, but this new Fastrack is a bit puzzling.

Rob, thanks. This helps, but causes me to incur additional costs. About a year ago two or more posters showed how to make the necessary specialty track using regular Fastrack sections. I failed to copy the info and think that doing a forum search now would bring up a huge list to sort through.

Welcome to FasTrack.
Here is the video you seek:
Rob, thanks. That was the video I was looking for. However, I have one problem with it. When I removed adjacent pins and then mated the two sections as shown in the video the two rails still touched. You or another poster suggested leaving the pins in place and using a dremel tool to cut a slot in the outside rail at each end of the activation section. I like that better as it eliminates time spent getting the pins out.
Yes, I believe the slot is a better idea. It would mimic the factory section more closely.
It can also be functionally restored to a regular section if needed with the re-installment of the cross-tie piece underneath.
