About a year or two ago, the talk on the forum was how a new O-scale vehicle "street" system was the future and that it would make "SuperStreets" and "Streets" obsolete. I couldn't find the topic in the search feature. The system used battery operated cars and the vehicles had a stem with an electro-magnet attached to the chassis and the car followed a wire embedded in the streets. It looked awesome except for the visible stem. What ever became of this system?

I am still using my SuperStreets and buy a new car or truck every now and again. They're made by Bachmann, now. I've added figures to the chassis, just have to cut seated figures in half and glue them in.

As an aside, the USPS is running a holiday commercial whereby a model USPS truck runs around a nicely done model city - unknown scale - the truck has a visible stem out the side and the stem connects in a slot in the road. I love actual models of things as opposed to computer generated cinema.

Here's a quick video of my Streets in action.  I control them using the VAR channels on a dedicated DCS Remote Control - this gives the best variable voltage and the slowest speed possible without messing around with gearing or electronic do-dads. It boggles my mind why Bachmann didn't include operating headlights, a no-brainer. If anyone has added operating head and tail lights, kindly message me on the method or share here. I don't think I have the dexterity to drill and add them, plus it'd take some body work.

this unique linkage only exists at AUTOMATIONFX.

the independent rotating front wheels (left and right) and linkage allows the magnetic arm and front wheels to remain parallel despite the road curves and contours.  Way too small to 3D print.

the roadways are likely cut on a GlowForge using  GF draft board.   AUTOMATIONFX sells a miniature hand-router to cut groves in the underside of custom-made roadways or other surfaces to insert the magnetic wire.

Upper city automationFX paths

These are the FX pathways in the upper city I am building. Arrows show the direction of travel.

FX also makes turnouts and stop sections.

FWIW: I was at Nicholas Smith yesterday, part of my semi-annual pilgrimage after suffering at the Dentists which is nearby, and they had a very nice selection of SuperStreets vehicles. As I try to avoid playthings that requires batteries, I am not entertaining the FX system at this time. Also fwiw, the HO ca/truck system used in the Hamburg Germany exhibit has a self-charging "garage" whereby the vehicles pull in and "hookup" all by themselves - charge for period of time, and resume action, all without the operators having to touch them, at least that's the way it appeared on the video I had seen.
