I have to get a few parts for a couple locomotives I have and was wondering how fast of a turn around time does Lionel have on parts or would I be better served by ordering from say maybe one of the forum sponsors?

The parts I'm looking for are:

6208616051 AXLE BEARING / PLASTIC / PILOT TRUCK

for the Polar Express

and

6208613551 COUPLER ASSEMBLY / DOCKSIDER / REAR

for a Docksider I picked up at York.

I have heard that Lionel tends to take a while to fill orders and if possible I'd prefer to send some business to the sponsors, who would you recommend ?

Jerry

Any parts I've ordered online from Lionel were in my hand within a week from the day they were purchased.

I suspect the delays may have been caused by the recent move from Ohio to North Carolina. Thats all done, and Lionel service/parts is back to buisness.

The forum sponsors are good as well, they will likely be a bit cheaper as Lionel charges flat rate shipping.

Brassuers Electric Trains, and Boxcar Bill at MTTPonline. com are a couple of sponsors to start with.

Having bought used Lionels with missing, broken parts. I second the above recommendation, besides, I always find something else to add to take advantage of shipping, and they are sponsors.

Lionel flat charges for priority shipping on parts. You'll get them quickly, but for that order the shipping will be almost as much. So, there are times when I can wait, that I call other suppliers for a regular mail postage shipping.

Regarding processing time, it's out the door pretty fast. I find that is the case with most of our sponsor's. The question is, do they have it in stock.

You could try Trainz for that order as they stock quite a bit of new parts including boards. Charlie Ro may have that stuff also and ship it regular mail.
