Tonight, I powered up my layout to run a few new pieces of rolling stock. However, I couldn't get any of my engines to run. They would start up, and I could sporadically get the bell or whistle to work before I was given the message "Out of RF Range." Once or twice I even go the message "Engine is Not on Track." Believe me, the engine is very much on the track. One of the engines is TMCC so I picked up my CAB-1 remote and was able to run the engine like always. I'm not sure what's going on. I read another thread on here- my TIU is addressed to one, the red power LED is blinking once and then staying on steady when it receives power. I haven't moved anything or changed anything and now this is the message I get every time. Help please!

You need to try and tether the remote to the TIU with a four wire phone cord. See if that fixes it and then we'll know.
I think we need to rally Barry on a quick list of troubleshooting fixes. or

If tethering the TIU and the remote doesn't improve things, remove the TMCC engine from the layout and see if things improve.
Second, what is different or what's changed on the layout since the last time everything worked as it should?
Hey Barry- I hadn't changed anything on the layout. I tethered the TIU and the remote and was able to run the engines just fine. I'm going to try again without them tethered and see what happens.
It sounds as if the transceiver board in the TIU or the remote or both may have lifted out of its socket. If so, you'll need to open the devices and press down carefully on the transceiver board to reseat it. I suggest the TIU first since it's easier to get into. If reseating the board in the TIU doesn't do it, you'll have to open the remote.
When you open these devices, be vary careful not to pull up on the antenna wire or the transceiver board itself. Doing so can cause damage that's very difficult to repair.
The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition, pages 155-157 has a detailed discussion regarding this issue and it's resolution.

Thanks Barry. Without the TIU and remote tethered, I had the same problem. I'll check the transceiver board next. Thanks.
