There have been recent threads discussing outside O-Gauge layouts. When we go up this morning to another foot of heavy wet snow, any thoughts of an outside O-Gauge layout were immediately dismissed. It is the first day of spring. Where is the grass on it's way to greening up. How about spring flowers? forget it. They are buried under 4 ft. of snow. Take a look.

That's snow alright.  Must be great snowmobile country or cross country skiing.  I doubt any G scale snow plow could keep up with that amount of snow, let alone the wet stuff.

But when it get nice and sunny Maine is one of the most beautiful states in the Country........outside of Hawaii I mean.

Take care,

Just got off the phone with the weather shipping department. It seems that the delivery of Spring to your area was inadvertently shipped to California almost two months ago. They're working on getting it back to you, but California is insisting on pre-paid return shipping first.

OK, not by best comedic effort.

We have had snow storms this winter that had more snow accumulation than this one, but this was the absolute worst one for snow removal. The snow was heavy and wet and the snow blower had a hard time with it. We started at 9:00 AM and finished this miserable chore after 4:00 PM. Now they are predicting more of this stuff on Saturday.

But wait, it is spring!!

Here in the Sunshine State it's just the opposite with Spring commencing a bit more like an early dose of summer. Love-bugs and pollen all over everything, temperatures the past few weeks have required AC, and a few days of nasty thunderstorms to boot. All minor hiccups however when most days still look like this. Leave all that snow behind and come on down to Florida, guys!

Brian, we had a corner lot in N.J.  Big mistake!  300 feet of municipal sidewalk (they

have a 24-hour rule) plus a triple-wide driveway, plus 100 feet of front walk.

Fast-forward to Delaware:  The lot on which our new house will sit is pie-shaped.

Only a double-wide driveway, maybe fifty feet of sidewalk and about twenty feet

of front walk.  I love it!  Let it snow . . . . . not!

So, if I build an O scale layout using either scaletrax or Realtrax outside in the backyard which is covered by a roof, will the track get damaged due to being outside? of course the locos will always be inside when not in use and the track will be cleaned prior to a run session, BUT the cars will stay outside if at all possible. what do you guys think? I am in the San Jose area, California. In extreme weather, the layout will be covered and protected when not in use in the winter/fall times. I would like to build my 4'x16' layout on rollers of two 4'/8' sections...Please let me know your thoughts.(I do not have any space in the house and I need a layout baaad!)

Start a new thread 4014. Someone from AZ posted that anything with plastic ties or roadbed gets wasted by the sun. So, think wooden tie track. Anyway, if you start a new thread there are plenty of outdoor RR folks on the forum that will chime in with their experience. It will be a different challenge.
