Went to run my NS DAP train and sad to see the paint is flaking off the Illinois coach in a couple areas:
The paint finish is lifting then eventually flaking. This is the only car, out of the complete set of cars offered, that is doing this. These cars are kept in the house under human comfort conditions. If you look closely at this picture:
note the raised areas that will probably follow suit. This is happening on both sides of the car but so far the printed areas are not affected. I can try to match up a variant of water based acrylic Tuscan Red and airbrush the areas the paint has flaked off. Using my thumbnail, I've chipped back the lifting finish to where it seems to have a stronger hold. I hope the feathering process won't continue to chip away the paint.
My question is; Do you think applying a gloss coat of clear acrylic sealer will protect any more lifting and chipping? I guess at this point it doesn't matter. If my efforts are futile, the only other option I guess would be to strip the entire car, but I won't be able to replace the printing, only the striping. I may be able to find some waterslide decals about the same size, but not the same font with black outline.
Has anyone else had this happen?
