Picked up a early 119 Lionel tunnel at TTOS last month. It had been painted over poorly a couple of times and been used as a step stool. The top was crushed in below the sides. Did some creative reshaping, then striped the paint. Kind of thinking of leaving it bare to show how they were built. Whatcha think?

that is cool the way it is Steve!
Looks really sharp as is, I think it'd go better with tinplate than it originally did with the painted on scenery. I say polish.

The portals are tin, the rest is brass.

Polish it to a nice shine, spray it with clear gloss lacquer and call it "GOLD TOP" Mountain 
Told you people will love to see it in brass. Always see the normal painted ones, I've never seen one in the original brass. Interesting to see how it was made.
have it electo plated with 22 carat gold.

so......where are the "Before" pics?
Do what is best to fit in with the context of your layout. If it is tinny and toylike leave it alone. If it seasonal paint it accordingly. All white for a snow covered mountain side would be cool. Or, the usual trees and such - or rock grey, but make it go with everything else you are showing. It should add to and not distract from the trains.

Dave, you can see it in this video. Keep in mind I had already pushed the top up about 2" to clear the roofs.

Paint half of it and display the side you like. You can change it whenever you want.

I would rather paint it to resemble a mtn tunnel. You can keep some 8x10 glossy pics handy of the brass mtn to show.
