I have a number of M2 and similar vehicles that lok right on my Marx 027 layout, being about 1/63 scale.  My question involves removing some of the gaudy and inappropriate painted details... or they may be appleques of some sort... without damaging the basic paint.

For example a Dodge cab over truck with gold trim on both sides of the bed, surrounding the "Dodge" lettering on the tailgate, and "Dodge power giants" lettering on the doors.  I want to keep the rest of the details intact.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could you post a picture of the trucks so we can see the details you are trying to remove?

If it happens to be a decal, you may be able to remove it with Goo Gone, which shouldn't hurt the paint.

If it is painted on, it will be tricky to remove without damaging the paint beneath the lettering. You can try a solvent on a Q-tip working very slowly.  You will need to get the solvent off the body as soon as the lettering is removed, by using a damp paper towel with some dish soap. It is likely that the base paint will be damaged though, either by losing its shine or being removed completely.

George is right. I wanted to remove a logo showing "100" on the roof of an M2 1957 Chevy.

I took some clean rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and began rubbing it on the image. Re-wetting the Q-tip several times did the job and as soon as the "100" was gone I wiped the entire car with clean water on a cloth. None of the paint was damaged.

YRMV!

So, does it seem that the logo was a decal?
